Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus or Hibiscus eaculentus) contains water, carbohydrate, dietary fiber, protein, beta-carotene, xanthan, lutein, vitamin A, vitamin B1 (thiamine),  B2 (riboflavin), B3 (niacin), B9 (folate), vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, potassium and zinc.

In A 2011 Study published in The Journal Pharmacy & BioAllied Sciences, Researchers in India found that when subjects were fed dried and ground okra peels and seeds, they experienced a reduction in their blood glucose levels, while others showed a gradual decrease in blood glucose following regular feeding of the extract of okra for about ten days.

One Study stated that okra water improved the levels of blood sugar of pregnant rats that had gestational diabetes.
