Zika Virus : Symptom, Description of Zika, Transmission, Diagnosis, Treatment, And Prevention






Zika virus disease is a disease caused by the zika virus, which is spread to people primarily through an infected Aedes species mosquito bite.Zika virus is spread by the daytime-active Aedes mosquitoes.Its name comes from the Zika forest of Uganda.It is a member of the virus Family Flaviviridae and the Genus Flavivirus.The symptoms of zika virus normally last for two to seven days.The incubation of zika virus disease is not obvious, but is likely to be a few days.Once a person has been infected, he or she is likely to be protected from future infections.Zika virus disease is usually relative mild and no fatal.


The Symptoms of Zika Virus
  • Fever
  • Skin rash or maculopapular rash
  • Joint, back, and muscle pain
  • Conjunctivitis (red eyes)
  • Headache or Malaise


Description of Zika disease

  • Zika began with a mild headache and progressed to a maculopapular rash, fever, and back pain.
  • The rash started fading in two days.
  • The fever resolved and only the rash remained within three days.


Transmission

  • The Bite of Mosquitoes
Zika virus disease is transmitted to people through the bite of an infected mosquito from Aedes genus.

  • A Pregnant Woman to The Baby



Zika virus may spread from woman in pregnancy to the baby.It will cause a serious defect called Microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects.Zika infections in adults are able to result in Guillain-Barrè Syndrome.

  • Blood Transfusion
Zika virus can be found in blood donors.It can be transmitted through blood transfusion.


Diagnosis of Zika Virus

The diagnosis of zika virus can be confirmed by laboratory test and blood test for checking the presence of Zika Virus RNA in the blood or other body fluids, including saliva and urine.


Treatment of Zika Virus
  • Rest, fluids, Paracetamol (Acetaminophen) are to treat zika symptoms.
  • Aspirin and Other Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory drugs are to reduce the bleeding risk.They should be used when dengue has been ruled out.
  • No vaccine or preventative drug is available.


Prevention
  • Removal  the breeding sites of mosquito.
  • The use of insect repellent regularly.Repellent should contain DEET (N, N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide), IR3535, or Icaridin.
  • Installing physical barriers, such as windows and door.
  • The use of bed net.
  • Wearing long-sleeved shirt and long pant.
  • The use of air conditioner.
