Dragon fruit contains captin, carbohydrate, protein, fiber, carotene, vitamin B1, vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin C, phosphorus, iron, calcium.It is the fruit of several cactus species.It is also called pitaya.Dragon fruit has very low energy density, which means it has very few calories compared to its serving size.

  • Hylocereus costaricensis ( red-fleshed dragon fruit) has red-skinned fruit with red flesh.
  • Hylocereus magalanthus (yellow dragon fruit) has yellow-skinned fruit with white flesh.

  • Linoleic acid (omega-6 fatty acid)
  • Oleic acid (omega-9 fatty acid
  • Alpha-Linolenic acid (omega-3 fatty acid)
  • Palmitic acid
  • Stearic acid
  • Cis-vaccenic acid
  • Palmitoleic acid
  • Myristic acid

Dragon fruit has antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.The phytochemical captin in dragon fruit is used as a medication to treat heart problems.Lycopene is responsible for red colour in dragon fruit that has been shown to be linked with lowering the risk of prostate cancer.The consumption of dragon fruit excessively can be harmful for the health because it contains fructose.Carotene in dragon fruit has been linked to a number of anti-carcinogenic qualities and can reduce the size of tumors.
