Sage (Salvia officinalis) contains dietary fiber, vitamin A, beta-carotene, beta-crypto-xanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, protein, folic acid, pyridoxine, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin B2 (riboflavin), vitamin B3 (niacin), vitamin B9 (folate),vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, calcium, zinc, potassium, iron, manganese, magnesium, and copper.It does not have cholesterol.

The essential oil of Sage contains ketones such as a-thujone and ß-thujone.Thujone is GABA and serotonin (5-HT3) receptor antagonists.It improves mental concentration, attention-span, and quickens the senses.Sage Leaf is composed of cineol, borneol, tannic acid; bitter subtances like cornsole and cornsolic acid; fumaric , chlorogenic, caffeic, and nicotinic acids; nicotinamide; flavones; flavones glycosides and estrogenic subtances.These compounds act as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-allergic, and anti-septic properties.The volatile oil of Sage are camphene, cineol borneol, bornyl acetate and other esters to have tonic, astringent, diaphoretic, and stimulant properties.Sage oil is distilled from the flowering tops.The essential oil in sage are found to have acetylcholinesterase (Ach) enzyme inhibition activities.It improves concentration and treats memory loss associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Sage comes from the latin word " salvere " that means to be saved.Sage is an aromatic plant, a perennial, evergreen subshrub, with woody stems, grayish leaves, and blue to purplish flowers.
