Cabbage is a leafy green or purple biennial part, grown as an  annual vegetable crop for its dense-leaved heads.Cabbage is a cultivated plant eaten as a vegetable, having thick green or purple leaves surrounding as spherical heart or head if young leaves.

Cabbage contains the antioxidants choline, beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin as well as flavonoids, kaempferol, quercetin, apigenin, and a adequate a mount of minerals like potassium, manganese, iron and magnesium.

Cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables contain small amounts of thiocyanate, a compound associated with goiter formation when iodine intakes is deficient.
